Responding effectively to an FBR notice
The first response should begin with the notice itself: the statutory provision relied upon, the tax period, the allegation, the information requested and the deadline. A useful response is not merely argumentative. It should provide a coherent factual narrative, reconciled figures and supporting documents, followed by the legal position.
Key steps
- Preserve the deadline and confirm the correct forum.
- Reconcile returns, accounts, bank activity and supporting schedules.
- Separate factual clarification from legal submissions.
- Request further particulars or time where reasonably necessary.
- Maintain a complete record of submissions and evidence.
